Thomas Hughes Tilley

Thomas Hughes Tilley, 78, went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2024. He was a loving and treasured husband, father, and grandfather. Tom was born on August 20, 1945 in Martinsville, VA. He was preceded in death by parents Robert Hughes Tilley and Gladys Gunter Tilley; and two sisters, Becky Tilley Smith, and Donna Tilley Clark. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Following his time in the Army, he resided in California where he attended Hartnell College. He later returned to Virginia and resided in Richmond, attending the University of Richmond. He continued to make his home in Chester, VA.
He was an avid reader and outspoken servant for the Lord. While his background was in finance, he had the heart of an entrepreneur. This led him into several small businesses, the last being a small trucking company. After retiring, he drove for Epes Transport System for several years. In his younger years, he enjoyed flying small planes. His family always came first and benefited from his wisdom throughout all his endeavors.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda M. Tilley. In addition, he is survived by a son, Michael T. Tilley (Kim); a daughter, Lora T. Cibula (Jon); as well as one sister, Bonnie T. Huff (Doug). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew Tilley, Olivia Tilley, Cody Lands, Zoe Cibula, Grace Cibula, Kaia Cibula, and Jordan Schram; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the funeral home.
