Travis Lloyd Gathright, 41 died January 19, 2018 peacefully at his home in Chester, VA. Travis was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be admired and cherished. Travis was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, and a special person who touched so many lives with his huge heart and guiding words. He had the gift of making such a difference and inspiring anyone who crossed his path.
Travis was born May 12, 1976 in Richmond, Virginia, the son of M. Wayne and Katherine Bowen Gathright. After graduating from Varina High School, he attended James Madison University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Health Services Administration with a minor in Business. He completed his post-baccalaureate degree in Management Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University and began working as an IT Manager and Network Administrator at Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Center. While working as IT Manager, he began his Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He continued working towards his Master’s degree and became Director of Information Systems at Sheltering Arms. In 2008, he moved to Philadelphia and began working as Chief Information Officer and Corporate Compliance Officer at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. Throughout his career at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, he held many positions such as Chief Information, Infrastructure, and Corporate Compliance Officer and Vice President & Chief Information Officer/Facilities Operations, Information Systems and Safety. Travis was a remarkable man who accomplished so much at a young age.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Wynne Gathright and daughter Gwendolyn Louise; parents Wayne and Kitty Gathright; brother Chris (Mandy) and their children Samantha and Alexander; parent-in-laws, Jim and Linda Wynne; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Jason) and their children Riley and Liam; sister-in-law Lauren (Scott) and their children Emiline and Grayson; and many loving aunts and uncles.
Travis, may the Lord and his many angels surround you with their love and allow you to rest in God’s arms and be at peace. You have fought an incredible fight and will always be a loving role model to our daughter, Gwendolyn.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 110 N. Union St. Petersburg, VA 23803 on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 12 noon. Visitation will begin prior to funeral at 11:00 a.m. The family will be there to greet relatives and friends. Interment will follow the service at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
