Tri Duy Atran, 43, of Prince George, VA, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2018, surrounded by those he loved. Tri is survived by his devoted mother, My Yen Ta-Gammon, of Prince George, and his father, Vinh A and step-mother, Hang Phan of Richmond. He also leaves his devoted sister Thi Thi Donahue, his half-sister Katherine Atran, several uncles and aunts and numerous cousins, and a devoted family friend, Dr. Sandra Guerard. He was the loving grandson of the late Dr. Tang Ta and Tuyen Kha Dong, who predeceased him.
Tri Atran was born in Saigon, South Vietnam and emigrated to the U.S in 1980. He attended VCU as a University Provost scholar and graduated with a B.S. in Applied Math in December 2004, despite several years of significant health challenges, which impacted his life. He was a graduate of Meadowbrook High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Vice-President of the Virginia Junior Academy of Science, and was the recipient of several other academic awards and scholarships.
A faithful member of the Chinese Baptist Church of Richmond, he was also devoted to his family and his close friends. He possessed a joyful spirit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a dedication to the study of Mathematics. He was determined to overcome his most recent health struggle of several years, which he faces with grace and faith, with the help of Dr. Michael Rose and other caring physicians.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 6-8p.m. at the J.T. Morriss & Sons Funeral Home Chester Chapel 30650 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831.
