Vann Marshall Hoover, Sr., 91, of Chesterfield, formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, entered eternal life December 25, 2023, at 1:28 am. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lee Hoover and Mary Chere Jones Hoover; his loving wife of sixty years, Margaret Lee Knowles Hoover; his eldest daughter, Patricia Ann Hoover; and granddaughter, Gabrielle Hoover. He is survived by his eldest son, Vann Jr. and wife, Gwen, of Snow Camp, NC; his eldest daughter, Theresa and her husband, Barry Browder, of Chesterfield; his second eldest son, Richard and his wife, Jane, of Chester; his youngest daughter, Margaret and her husband, Jeff Wilson, of Powhatan; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel Hoover, Kristen (Kevin Weaver) and Tyler (fiancée, Brandy Henry) Browder, Matthew and Rebecca Hoover, Bryson and LeeAnna Wilson; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Kenzie Browder. Other survivors include many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Hoover was the youngest of nine children and was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. After serving three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Mr. Hoover obtained a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree at North Carolina State University. He also took post-graduate studies and was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina. He began his engineering career at Western Electric in Burlington, NC. He went on to become a senior manufacturing engineer and department chief. Following a 32 year career, he retired from AT&T in Richmond, VA.
The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W Hundred Rd, Chester, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 29, 2023, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 6006 Three Chopt and Grove Avenue, Richmond, VA. Interment will be at Westhampton Memorial Park, Richmond, VA.
