Venable Johnson, Jr.

Venable Johnson, Jr. 73, of Prince George, VA, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Born in Petersburg, VA, he was the son of the late Venable Johnson, Sr. and Martha Harville Johnson. Venable was a graduate of Petersburg High School and St. Andrew's Presbyterian College where he had played basketball for both schools. He was a lifetime member of Second Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, and had served in many different capacities to include, Sunday School Teacher and Elder. Mr. Johnson had been employed as a Senior Project Manager for 23 plus years at SRC, Inc. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a life long member of Belches Mill Pond in Sussex County. Lastly, he was an Eagle Scout and was dedicated to and active with Troop 902 in Prince George. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jeanne Truchan Johnson; his son, Venable Rosser Johnson; two sisters, Anne Leslie Atkinson Brown (Joe) and Martha Epes Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Toni Essary and Deni Harris; and numerous cousins and extended family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Second Presbyterian Church, 419 West Washington St., Petersburg, VA 23803. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T.
