Vera â??Gerlineâ? Burton Spain, 87, of Colonial Heights, widow of Edward Roper Spain, Sr., passed away Friday, May 12, 2006 at Hopewell Health Care Center. Born in Chesterfield County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus F. and Emmaline Wolfrey Burton. She was a retired employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she was active in the ladies bible class. Mrs. Spain is survived by her sons, Edward R. Spain, Jr. and wife, Martha Ann of Chesterfield, Gerald E. Spain and wife, Luella of Richmond, and Barry H. Spain of Colonial Heights and Joyce Rackley of Prince George; grandchildren, Edward Preston Spain , Sr. of Charles City, Gerald E. Spain, Jr. of Dinwiddie, Janet L. Shoaf of Mechanicsville, Carolyn Hankins of Colonial Heights, Brian Chamberlaine of Amelia, Amy Rackley-Walters and Kristy Rackley both of Prince George, and Donald Rackley of New York; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Spain; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Monday, May 15, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
