Verna Frances Hock

April 4, 1960 — March 29, 2021

Verna Frances Hock, 60, of Hopewell, VA, gained her angel wings the morning of Monday March 29, 2021, when unexpectedly, God took her by the hand and led her to greet our savior Jesus Christ and her loved ones that flew before, letting her know that her purpose on earth had been fulfilled. Verna was born to the late Vera Jane Josey and Clarence Elliott Wilson on April 4, 1960 at John Randolph Hospital. Her family moved from Hopewell and returned when she was 15 years old. She then met the love of her life, Dennis N. Hock. They were united in marriage on April 15, 1976. From that union, came their first bundle of joy, a baby boy. Dennis "Neal" Hock, Jr., when nearly a decade later came their second bundle of joy, Jonathan Elliott Hock. Verna was a nurturing, doting, compassionate, caring, inspirational mother and loved her boys unconditionally. Verna was a resident of Hopewell most all of her life, and was educated in the Hopewell Public School system, graduating from HHS in 1976. She was a stay at home mother until she decided to be a Home Interiors Design Representative. She loved going to friends' homes demonstrating different ways to decorate individual rooms. She was very successful but wanted something more, so she earned her associates degree from John Tyler Community College in Early Childhood Education and Human Services at ODU. She went to work for Hopewell-Prince George Social services as a teen mom. Chesterfield social services, child welfare department and later at Poplar Springs counseling, helping young girls overcome their troubled lives. Lastly, she was employed as the Senior Program Specialist for the City of Hopewell Parks and Recreation. She would coordinate trips and activities for senior citizens who were members of the community center and surrounding areas until she retired. Verna loved to vacation at the beach or anyplace near the water, be it the ocean or at Lake Royale in Louisburg, NC. She loved the warmth of the sun as it provided peace and calmness to her, and not to mention all the fun with her children, grandchildren and extended family over the years. Verna had a flare for fashion taking after her mother and enjoyed shopping with her mom and friends. She loved watching movies, enjoyed new eateries and boutique shops, craft fairs and loved all types of music, though her favorite music artist is Stevie Nicks. She loved plants, had a green thumb and her favorite color was red. ''You will change the world just by being a warm, kindhearted human being", was one of her favorite quotes was and that was who we all knew her to be. She enjoyed spending time with her Bunco Babes playing Bunco and LCR. She thoroughly enjoyed her "Cups of Kindness" women's devotional group that she had started attending. Verna's faith in God was very strong and she knew she could always rely on him to see her through anything. She is going to be greatly missed by all those that loved her. Verna is preceded in death by her parents, Vera Jane Josey (Paul C. Josey, Sr.) and Clarence Elliott Wilson; mother-in-law, Louise Hock.
