Vernon Leroy Harrison, Sr., 76, of Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Waverly, VA, he was the son of the late William W. and Annie Laurie Hayes Harrison. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, was a retired Superintendent with Continental Can, and co-owner of Southern Decorating. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Rowe Harrison. He is survived by his son, Vernon L. Harrison, Jr. of Boca Raton, FL; daughter-in-law, Mona Liza Nunez; a brother, William West Harrison of Prince George; numerous nieces and nephews to include, Page B. Stirrup and John Robert Blaha, Jr. both of Colonial Heights; and numerous great-nieces great-nephews. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment following at St. Joseph Cemetery. A Christian Wake will be held at 7:00 Thursday evening at the church. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School, 123 Franklin St., Petersburg, VA 23803. Services are under the direction of the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
