Vernon Elmore “Rudy” Wells, Jr., 74, of Carson, VA passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Born in Sumter, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Vernon E. Sr. and Lorene Sutton Wells; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Alice Kennedy Wells; and two sisters, Edith Blevins and Lois Massey. Rudy had served for 20 years on the Carson Volunteer Fire Department and had helped establish the Original Carson Fire Department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Rowanta Hunting Lodge. Mr. Wells was a longtime member of Carson United Methodist Church. He is survived by his one son, Vernon E. Wells, III and wife, Rebecca; a granddaughter, Constance O. Wells; two grandsons, James R. Wells and Waverly A. Wells; and one great-granddaughter, Dixie A. Smith. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes and Cremation Service. Interment will be private.
