Vetrie Moore Jones, age 83, of Chester, VA, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2007. She had suffered a stroke several years ago and had been limited in her mobility since. Vetrie was born in Lincolnton, N.C., the daughter of the late George M. and Minnie Howell Moore. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arva W. Moore, and brother in law, Olen M. Beal. She led a full life as a longtime Member of Chester Baptist Church, teaching children, and as an ordained Deacon. She was a leader in many church womenâ??s organizations, a member of AARP, and recipient of the AARP Community Service Award. Some of her many other activities included Regional Vice-President of the National Soil and Water Conservation District Auxiliary, leader of Campfire Girls, Cub Scout Den Mother, and 4-H Club leader. She continued her dry since of humor in her declining years and will be deeply missed by her friends and family. Vetrie is survived by a husband of 61 years, Mr. Marshall Jones; a son, Olen â??Butchâ? Jones and wife, Elizabeth; and a sister, Mayna M. Beal. The family will receive friends at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Chesterfield on Sunday, May 6, 2007 from 3 to 5 p.m. A celebration of Life will follow on Monday, 11 a.m. at the Chester Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions may be made to the Chester Baptist Church Building Fund.
