Vickie Harless Aultman

February 4, 1954 — July 20, 2024

Vickie Harless Aultman, aged 70, passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2024 surrounded by her husband and children, in her hometown of Hopewell, Virginia, after a two-year courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 4, 1954, at John Randolph Hospital in Hopewell, Virginia she was the beloved daughter of the late Reuben H. and Hilda May Harless. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carol Joy Piner.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Klaus E. Aultman; her two devoted daughters, Jessica A. Jackson and husband, Adam and Rebecca A. Mazzei and husband Victor; her four precious grandchildren, Trace, Lincoln, Miles, and Reagan, who affectionately called her Gigi; brother, David Harless (Vicky); sisters, Daniella "Anne" Kyriakides (Alan) and Darlene Harlan; brother, Michael Harless; and several nieces and nephews.
Vickie graduated from Hopewell High School in 1972 and completed her nursing training at Petersburg General School of Practical Nursing in 1973 becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She dedicated 40 years to the field of long-term care, positively impacting many lives at several facilities including Orthopedics of Petersburg, Hopewell Convalescent Center, John Randolph Hospital, Riverview on the Appomattox, and Colonial Heights Rehabilitation Center, from which she retired in February 2020 after caring for patients with kindness and compassion. After retirement, she devoted her days to caring for her grandchildren, doing her best to spoil them with love and affection as they were her pride and joy.
Known for her positive and happy demeanor, Vickie was celebrated as a loving and dedicated wife to Klaus, mother, and best friend to her two girls, Gigi to her four grandchildren, beloved sister, aunt, and friend. Vickie loved the beach more than anything, especially her yearly trips to Nags Head with her family. She also enjoyed spending time with friends at the American Legion, where she was a member of the Hopewell Memorial American Legion Auxiliary Unit 146 serving as Member at Large, watching her favorite shows with her husband, and attending her grandchildren's various sporting events. She cherished her favorite role as Gigi, always there with a smile and support for her four "loves" - a special title she gave to each of them. Vickie faced her challenges with remarkable strength and grace until the end battling cancer three separate times, but never giving up hope. She was a true fighter and will be loved and missed by all who knew her forever.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Crater Community Hospice for all the wonderful care towards Vickie over the past few weeks, especially to Lindsey, Yvonne and Laura. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow her graveside service at the American Legion Post 146. Vickie's life will be celebrated and remembered for the joy and care she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vickie's memory may be made to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Johnston-Willis, supporting others in their battles with cancer, a cause close to Vickie's heart.
