Victor Robert Tomko

Victor Robert Tomko, 98, of Prince George County, VA went home to be with his Lord on December 2, 2020. He was born and raised on his family farm in Disputanta, VA, the youngest child of the late John and Mary Kraynak Tomko. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia Sulc Tomko, and his siblings Elsie T. Bresko, Lena T. Gentry, Lawrence J. Tomko, and Ruth T. Makovsky. He is survived by two children; son, Kenneth W. Tomko (Pamela), a daughter, Debra T. Lescanec (West); four grandchildren, Dr. Ashley L. Talbott (Wesley), Jennifer T. Wilsie (Ross), Bryan W. Lescanec (Kelly), Kristen T. Donivan (Jonathan); seven great-grandchildren (with number eight due in December), Jonah R. Wilsie, Katelyn P. Talbott, Rainer B. Wilsie, Abigail R. Donivan, Madelyn B. Talbott, Benjamin W. Lescanec, and Caroline P. Talbott, and many loving relatives and friends. Victor was a student athlete (baseball and basketball) and graduated from Disputanta High School in 1939. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) before beginning work in an aircraft production operation with Glen Martin in Baltimore, MD. He was a member of the “Greatest Generation”, faithfully and proudly serving in the 8th Army Air Corps from 1943 – 45 during World War II. He was a member of the 334th Fighter Squadron “Fighting Eagles” and served on a P-51 fighter base in Debden, England. He treasured his friendship with pilot, Carl “Tinker” Brown. Upon his return after the war he worked briefly in local industry before beginning his 35 -year civil service career with the Federal Government in the Transportation Division at Ft. Lee, VA. Vic was a devout Christian who loved his church family. He was a deacon, elder, and church treasurer at West End Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Hopewell, VA. Vic enjoyed and dearly loved his family. He was an avid gardener/canner and enjoyed sharing his expansive produce with friends and family. He also enjoyed hunting, the family Blackwater Acres farm, constructing hundreds of bird houses, reading western and adventure books, Virginia Tech /Virginia football, traveling/ocean cruising, teaching outdoor skills, oral history, and setting a godly example in his long and fruitful life. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 21, 2020 at West End Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayne Good, officiating. Interment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West End Presbyterian Church (1600 Atlantic Street, Hopewell, VA 23860). Many heartfelt thanks are offered to his hospice staff (Heather Rike and Erica Robinson) and his faithful care givers, Jennifer Bowles, Ruthann Holmes, Stacy Jones, Nafa Pair, Jami Sanford, and Ashley Wallace.
