Virginia â??Bucklesâ? Funk Churn, 80, of Petersburg, widow of Sherwood Wynne Churn, Jr., passed away Saturday, October 08, 2011 at her residence. Born in Marion, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mary Sue Robinson Funk. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn Funk Fleshman and Margaret Funk Anderson. Mrs. Churn was a 1952 graduate of Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University), with degree in Fashion Illustration. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Petersburg and worked as a library aide and teacherâ??s assistant at the Walnut Hill Elementary School for over 20 years. A fun loving and family oriented lady, she is survived by her children, Susan Churn Thacker and husband, Greg, Kathryn Churn Ferguson, Sherwood Wynne Churn, III and wife, Carole Ann, and Barbara Churn Brinkley and husband, Kemper; grandchildren, Jared Thacker and wife, Elizabeth, Eric Thacker and fiancée, Nicole, Elaine Winfree and husband, Kevin, Sam Kelly, Sarah Ragsdale and husband, Tyler, Sonny Edwards and husband, B.J., Rob Brinkley, Katie Brinkley, and Jamie Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Grace Winfree, Cameron Kelly, Dylan Thacker and Gavin Thacker; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friend, Dave Kelly; and her beloved pets, Abby and Annie. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11th at Blandford Cemetery with The Reverend David Teschner officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg.
