Virginia Gwaltney

Virginia Strange Gwaltney, 79, of Dinwiddie, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Minnie Short Strange and was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Mrs. Gwaltney was a Clerk of Court for Petersburg for many years, and was a member of West End Baptist Church, the Petersburg Garden Club and AARP. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook, read and garden. Mrs. Gwaltney is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richie C. Gwaltney; daughters, Donna G. Rice and husband Clifford of Dinwiddie, Diane G. Ange and husband Lyman, Jr. of Chester; grandchildren, Stephen and Richard Rice of Dinwiddie, Amber and Alexis Ange of Chester; sisters, Doris Barnes of Virginia Beach and Ernestine Harris of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Gwaltney of Colonial Heights and Martha Strange of Chester, numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 11 AM with interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Virginia and special thanks to all of her caregivers.
