Wakefield
Virginia Gray Hammond, 79, a former resident of Wakefield, died on Thursday, March 19, 2009. Born in Gauley Mills, West Virginia on January 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Ava Clevenger Gray. She was the widow of Leodice Glen Hammond.
She retired from Southside Regional Medical Center after serving as a certified nursing assistant for 13 years. Virginia was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, Virginia is survived by her daughter, Teresa Hammond Savedge, and husband, James; two sisters, Wanda G. Hinkle (Jake Hinkle) and Nina G. Carroll; two granddaughters, Mia Nichole Savedge and Skye Logan Savedge; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Purviance Chapel in Wakefield by the Rev. Jim Kerr and the Rev. Connie Gibbs-Morris. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery and the family will have a reception at the Wakefield Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 -8 PM on Sunday night. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield Baptist Church, P.O.
