Virginia Sutherland Howard

Virginia Sutherland Howard, 95, of Dinwiddie, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012, at Waverly Health Care Center. Born May 11, 1917, in Colonial Heights, VA, she was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Eugene and Pearl Mann Sutherland, four brothers, Floyd, Edward, King, and John Sutherland, a sister, Teasy, and her husband of 65 years, Wilford W. Howard. She is survived by two nephews, Malcolm and Barry Sutherland; two nieces, Wanda Sutherland and Sharon Gordy; three grandchildren by choice, Martha Ann Burton, Richard Hill Burton and John Steven Burton; a beloved great-grandchild by choice, William Briggs Burton; and many, many friends. Virginia was a homemaker and loved taking care of her husband, W. Over the years, Virginia and W. selflessly helped many families and persons in need and generously contributed to numerous charities, particularly those benefitting children around the world. Virginia was a devoted member of the Petersburg Seventh Day Adventist Church. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 1:00 PM, at Southlawn Cemetery.
