Virginia Root

Virginia Helen Root, age 93, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away July 18, 2011. She was born in Bellwood, PA, the daughter of the late Rueben L. and Bertha Snauffer Hostler. She spent most of her life in Portsmouth, VA. Mrs. Root was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Root; son, Stephen C. Root; brothers, Gilbert, Virgil, Dean, Ray, Norman, Ted, and Clarence Hostler; sisters, Violet Hirschbeil, Lillian (Pink) Hettinger, and Nita Hamilton. She is survived by her children, Robert E. (Susie) Root, of Riverview, FL, William A. (Linda) Root of Rowlett, TX, Gilbert L. (Lorraine) Root of Chesapeake, VA, Barbara V. (Richard) Carner of Richmond, VA, Stanley R. (Patsy) Root of Dinwiddie, VA and Shirley (Bruce) Edwards of Colonial Heights, VA; 12 grandchildren, Mark Root, David A. Root, Diane Brewster, Laura Graham, Cindy Ceasar, Brian Sehon, Robbie Sehon, David L. Root, Robert C. Root, Kathy Root, Brian Root and Kristin Root; and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Stanley Milton Hostler, Shirley Dotzauer, Pat Cassidy. Mrs. Root was an avid bridge player and reader. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Chester chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with interment afterwards in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester.
