Virginia Roper

Roper, Virginia Pretlow Bryant, 98, of Petersburg, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011. Known to many as â??Gigi,â? she enjoyed life fully and loved to spend time with family and friends. She was a parishioner of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, where she was active on the Altar Guild and the Episcopal Church Women. She was a longtime member of the Country Club of Petersburg and former president of the Petersburg Garden Club. She also was a member of the Francis Epps Society. She attended the College of William and Mary. She was born April 4, 1913, in Petersburg. She is predeceased in death by her husband, Philip Rainey Roper Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Nell Roper Howard, Pretlow Roper Kaichen and Mary Paul Roper Hartman, and three sons-in-law, Carl Robert Howard, Bp. Troy A. Kaichen and Richard D. Hartman. She also is survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ & Grace Church, with interment to follow. Contributions may be made to Christ & Grace Church.
