Virginia Rigsby Hazelgrove Sanders, passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 97. She grew up on her family farm in Goochland, VA, with her late parents Ray and Ruth Rigsby. Virginia was the second oldest of nine siblings. At eighteen, she married her teenage sweetheart, Staff Sergeant William Brooking in December of 1945. Virginia became a young widow with the unexpected death of William on February 11, 1946, making her a proud member of Gold Star Wives of America. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Lewis W. Hazelgrove. In 1982 she found happiness again and was married to Thomas Sanders until his death in 1990. Virginia is also preceded in death by her devoted and loving children, daughter, Nancy Hazelgrove Huband (David); and her son, James L. Hazelgrove. She is survived by her dedicated grandchildren, David W. Huband, Jr. (Wendy), Stacey Huband, and Kristen Bennett; and great-grandchildren, Travis Bennett, Karley Huband, and Luke Hubbard. She retired as an accountant for the City of Richmond with over 30 years of employment. Virginia loved the outdoors, her bedding plants, was an avid sewer, and loved to can tomatoes from her son's garden. The family would like to thank Virginia's loving care giver, Norma Walker, for her attention and care. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Interment will be private.
