Virginia Alease Slaughter Walker, 86, a lifelong resident of Petersburg, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at her residence. Born October 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harvie J. and Mamie Harrell Slaughter. In addition, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Slaughter and a sister, Marion Slaughter Burch. Mrs. Walker was a lifelong member of the former High Street United Methodist Church and a current member of Kenwood United Methodist Church. She was a retired secretary from Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Walker is survived by her husband Basil Patrick â??Patâ? Walker; son, David Earl Walker (Debbye); daughter, Jackie Walker Mingia (Thomas); grandchildren, Wesley Thomas Mingia, Taylor Middleton and Alysse Mullarkey, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her dear friend and travel companion, Joyce Morton. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Crater Community Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Mrs. Walker. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
