Vivian Elizabeth Harrison Fike, 93, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Born in Hopewell, VA, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Harrison and Mildred Davis Harrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel C. “Buddy” Fike; only child, Douglas Fike; brothers, Jesse Jr., Lester (Betty), Calvin (Darles); sister-in-law, Betty (Lester); sister-in-law Darles (Calvin); and her nephews, Mark and Greg. Vivian is survived by her daughter-in-law, Vicky M. Fike; nieces, Patsy, Pam, and Paula; and a large extended family in Virginia and many friends in Delaware.
Vivian’s proudest accomplishment, besides family and pets in both Delaware and Virginia, included her participation in the Mrs. America Pageant representing Delaware in 1965. She and her husband, Buddy, and son, Doug, traveled to Florida to participate in the contest. Although she didn’t win the Mrs. America title, she enjoyed recalling the story of the family trip. The story was filled with cooking, fashion, modeling, and photos taken during the competition. She proudly displayed her trophy she won as Mrs. Delaware. In Vivian’s professional career, she sold commercial real estate in Newark, Delaware throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2021 at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
