Vola Dolby Bishop

Vola Elizabeth Dolby Bishop, 96, of Chesterfield, passed away July 10, 2023.
Born on June 24, 1927, to William Earl Dolby and Betty Elizabeth Dolby in Tunis, NC. She was the youngest of eight sisters and one brother (all deceased). Also preceded in death by her husband, Russell C. Bishop (married 55 years); and son, Ronald C. Bishop. She was a devoted and loving mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Donald Bishop and wife, Vickie, of Tappahannock; daughter, Bonnie Brown and husband, John, of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Matthew Brown and wife, Beverly, of Richmond, Jeremy Brown and wife, Tia, of Charlottesville, Brittany Gordon and husband, Tim, of New York, Travis Bishop, of Tappahannock, Tiffany Bishop, of Tappahannock, and Trentin Bishop and wife, Rui, of New Jersey; great grandchildren, Haley Martin, Athena Bishop, Teagan Brown, Alan Bishop, Poppy Gordon, and Sunny Gordon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Vickie Bishop and John Brown for always loving mom like their own, along with special niece, Linda Turner.

Vola spent her early years as a member the Cavalier Athletics Club and enjoyed bowling, ping pong, and horseshoes. She always said as a child she was called "pigeon" because she was so fast. She loved to travel and loved to shop. She loved cats and if a stray showed up it had a forever home. Mostly she had a huge heart and will always be the map we follow for the rest of our days. We will forever miss your laugh, your love, and your life. But we are grateful for the time we had you and for making our lives brighter. Love you forever. Rest in Peace.

There will be a graveside service at Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM.
