Walter Moore â??Bonesâ? Altman, Jr., 90 of Hopewell passed away February 7, 2009. Born on August 21, 1918 and been a resident of Hopewell for most of his life. Mr. Altman graduated from Hopewell High School in 1938 and attended Virginia Tech. After serving in the Pacific during World Ward II he returned to Hopewell serving as City Engineer from 1952 until 1966. Mr. Altman was also a partner in the Engineer Survey firm of Prichard, Legat and Altman and member of First Baptist Church, Hopewell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter M. and Hassie Porter Altman, his first wife Virginia M. Altman, his second wife Judy F. Stokes Altman, and a step-daughter Betsy Jo Wood. He is survived by two sons, Walter M. â??Butchâ? Altman and his wife Susan, and Johnny M. Altman and his wife Cindy; three step-sons, Donald A. Stokes and his wife Cindy, W. Douglas Stokes and his wife Linda and Gerald S. Stokes and his wife Linda; one sister, Betty Sue Breedlove; one brother, David Porter Altman; five grandchildren, John March Altman Jr., Natalie A. Sharpe, Thomas Altman, Virginia Ward, and Laura Pires; numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be Tuesday, February 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Appomattox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences to the family maybe registered at
