Walter Roy “Oggie” Ogburn, 59, of Blackstone, VA passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Born in Richmond, VA he was the son of the late Bill and Trudy Ogburn; and was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Oaklen Korey Reed; nieces, Ann Marie and Vicky Lynn; and nephew, William Henry IV; and brother-in-law, William Porter. Walter grew up in Colonial Heights and graduated from Colonial Heights High School. He retired after more than 20 years of service with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department. He can best be described as a selfless person who always wanted to do for others. He had a great sense of humor and was dearly loved by his family and friends. Walter is survived by his wife of 34 years, Becky Ogburn; one son, John Reed; grandchildren, Brandon Reed and Marial Reed; three great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Porter; a brother, William Henry Ogburn, III (Kay); father-in-law, Grover Cleveland Jenkins, Jr.; several nieces and nephews; as well as his fur babies, Buddy and Ava, who he loved dearly. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with The Rev. Tom Lester, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
