Walter James Wells, Jr., 92, of Prince George, VA passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019. Born in Roanoke, VA he was the son of the late Walter James Wells, Sr. and Carrie Williams Wells; and was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Maggie Wells; and a sister, Geraldine Oliver. Mr. Wells was a United States Army veteran having faithfully served during WWII. After his discharge from the Army he graduated from East Carolina University and later went on to graduate from Virginia State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. He retired from Prince George County High School after many years of dedicated service. While at Prince George High School he served as a teacher, athletic director and coach. Mr. Wells was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Hopewell. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman as was an honorary member of Lee’s Mill Pond in Prince George. He is survived by his children, Greg Wells, Rhonda Wells Ross and her husband, GE, and Robert Wells; four grandchildren, Anthony Ross, Kelli Harman, Carrie Ross and Patterson Wells; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Harper and Brooklyn; and a nephew, Mark Adwell. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at the funeral home.
