Warren Tyruss Nuckols, SCPO, USN (Ret.), age 85 of Chester, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2013. Warren, who was known to many as Tyruss, survived Laura Lonelle (Lamberth) Nuckols, to whom he was married for 40 years. He was born in Richmond, the son of the late Herman H. and Grace (Cyphers) Nuckols and the brother of the late Herman H. Nuckols Jr. and the late Faye N. Genovese. Warren joined the United States Navy in 1946 at age 17 and retired 20 years later as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. His service as a Navy opticalman, including work on battleship range finders and submarine periscopes, prepared him well for his civilian career with Titmus Optical and Carl Zeiss Optical, for which he was the lead North American repairman for world-renown Zeiss sports optics. He is survived by his son, Warren T. Nuckols Jr. and his wife, Karen F. Nuckols; his daughter, Wendy N. Reed and her husband, Christopher C. Reed; and grandchildren, Kathleen G. Nuckols and Owen C. Reed. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
