Waverly Thomas Martin, Jr. “Shocky”, 87, of North Chesterfield, passed away on September 22, 2016. He was a lifelong resident of Chesterfield County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; parents, Waverly T., Sr. and Virginia Martin; and brother, Earl Lee Martin. He is survived by his sons, Bill (Kathy), Bo (Alison); four grandchildren, Lauren (fiancé David), Brooks, Connor, and Scarlett; along with a loving extended family and many friends. Mr. Martin served in the United States Armed Forces post-World War II during the Occupation of Germany. He was later employed by DuPont’s James River Plant for 38 years before retiring in 1985. Shocky was born and raised in Dutch Gap along the James River where he learned to love the land. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed seeing things grow. He graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1948 where he was an All-State football player. He later attended University of Richmond. Shocky loved watching The Lawrence Welk Show which became a family tradition in the Martin household. He and his wife, Myra, enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling abroad. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. He loved his little cabin in the mountains of Lexington. His friends and family will remember him for his generosity, hospitality and storytelling. Most of all, Shocky will be remembered as a family man taking great pride in his family, he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
