Wayne Everett Hedgepeth

Wayne Everett Hedgepeth, 71, of Hopewell, died Thursday, November 5, 2015. He was the son of the late Everett Taskel and Jennie Burrow Hedgepeth. Wayne served his community in a number of ways, to include being a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Kiwanis Club of Hopewell, Hopewell Twinning Association, Hopewell Jaycees and Woodman of the World. He was a former Board Member of Historic Hopewell Foundation, Hopewell Emergency Crew and Hopewell Prince George Red Cross. He was also the former Chairman of Hopewell Social Services Advisory Board, Prince George American Red Cross. He was twice awarded the Hopewell Kiwanian of the Year, received the Jaycees Man of the Year Award and was later inducted into the Hopewell Senior Hall of Fame. Wayne began working at J.T. Morriss & Son in 1964 and dedicated his life to the profession he loved. Although he retired in 2011 as the Manager of the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son he continued to be involved and play an integral role in funeral services. He was later honored by the City of Hopewell with a Letter of Proclamation recognizing his dedication to funeral service and the community. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Terri Wells Hedgepeth; a son, Brian Reid Hedgepeth; a daughter, Blair Renee Hedgepeth; a sister, Kay H. Wilberger and her husband, Dave; a brother, W. Keith Hedgepeth and his wife, Linda; nieces, Jennifer W. Mizack and husband, Jay, Whitney W. Voltz and husband, Ingram, Meghan Wilberger and Lisa H. Davis and husband, Nic; nephews, Chris Wells and Angie, Pret Wells and wife, Bridgett, Wesley Hedgepeth, Warren Hedgepeth and wife, Christal, Aaron Reidmiller and wife, Shannon, Landon Reidmiller and their mother, Judy; brothers-in-law, Dwaine Wells and wife, Jennie and Randy Reidmiller. The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son on Monday, November 9th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 10th at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 2901 Norfolk Street, Hopewell, VA, 23860. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
