Welford Phillip Brown

Welford Phillip Brown, 93, of Hopewell, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019. Born in Gloucester, VA, he was the son of the late James Otis Brown and Martha McWilliams Brown. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Esther. Welford served in the U.S. Army retiring after many years of service as MSGT. After his military career he went on to work Richmond/Petersburg Turnpike. He was a faithful member of the New Apostolic Church in Hopewell. Welford was a loving father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Linda J. Melvin (Barry); son, Welfred R. M. Brown (Doris); grandchildren, Deborah Bishop, Amy Bennett, Tracey Devers, Bryan Brown, Whitney Robbins; brother, David Brown; sister, Barbara; and 8 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at New Apostolic Church, 2606 City Point Rd., Hopewell, VA 23860. The family will receive friends one hour prior from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to New Apostolic Church.
