Wenda Garriss Moore

Wenda Garriss Moore, 71, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, went home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on June 2, 2018. Wenda was born on July 17, 1946, in Newport News, VA, and was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Emma Garriss. Wenda attended Petersburg High School, and lived with her husband, Bobby, in Colonial Heights. Wenda managed Hines Grocery store and later worked at Hecht’s and Macy’s. She had a fun, spunky personality and didn’t know a stranger. She loved helping those in need and making people feel special. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bobby Moore; two sons; Richard Moore (Jessica) of Berkley Springs, WV, Pastor Michael Moore (Kim) of Chester, VA; grandchildren; Caleb, Nathan, Kelsey, Zoey, Richard Lee Moore, Jr., Katie Cominsky and her husband, Alex, Rachel Moore; her brothers, Braxton and his wife, Susan Garriss of Fayetteville, AK, Harvey and his wife, Nancy Hopkins-Garriss of Harrisonburg, VA; her sister, Janet Lewis of Mechanicsville, VA; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a lots of folks that she considered family. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Moore of Beacon Hill Church and Dr. Stephen Felker of Swift Creek Baptist Church, on Branders Bridge Rd officiating. Interment will follow in the historic Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wenda’s name to Beacon Hill Church, P.O. Box 3568, Chester, VA 23831.
