William ‘Bill’ Allen McBride, Sr., age 81, died after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Saturday December 16, 2017 in Richmond, Va. Bill is survived by his son William, of Atlanta, GA; his daughter Mika, of Seguin, TX; his daughter-in-law, Paulina; his son-in-law, Steve O’ Day; and his significant other, Kathy Hubbard, of Greeneville, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Katherine, of Youngstown, OH. Bill was born on September 2, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio. After he graduated from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force Air Police Specialists in 1955 and played baseball on the traveling team. Subsequently, he became a warrant officer of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division. He served meritoriously in Fort Bragg, NC, Vietnam, Germany, and Fort Lee, VA, among other places. He was awarded various medals and rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He was a member of the Special Polygraph Taskforce initiated by the Army CID. While on active duty, he went back to college and achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. After serving his country for twenty-three years, Bill retired from the military in 1978. As a civilian, Bill worked as a Vice President at Clemons Security Services in Richmond, VA. He also served as President of the Virginia Polygraph Association for five years. Bill was a devoted family man and loving father. He married Olga Musson of London, England, in 1959, and the couple had two children together. The marriage was dissolved in 1989. Bill was in a long-term relationship with Faye Butler, until she passed away unexpectedly in 2007. Since 2010, he had been in a relationship with Kathy Hubbard. Bill was a noble, sociable and loyal man with many faithful friends. He was an avid baseball fan. His competitive streak was manifest on the card table, where he played poker and pinochle. In recent years, he was an active member of the Bid or Pass Pinochle Club alongside his companion Kathy, and they played in tournaments all over the East Coast. His family and friends will always remember him as a principled but easy-going man who never hesitated to help anyone in need. A viewing for Bill is scheduled for Thursday December 21, 2017 from 10am to 12pm at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Sons, followed by a celebration of his life at Carr Brothers Gathering Place Eatery, Hopewell, VA. Bill will be cremated and interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a subsequent date. All are welcome to attend the viewing and celebration.
