William Dudley Allen Jr.

William Dudley Allen, Jr., 95, a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, VA, died Saturday, March 25, 2017. He was the son of the late W. D. Allen and Clyde Jones Allen and widower of Virginia Sydnor Allen. A graduate of Midway High School and Hampden-Sydney College, Mr. Allen was a World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre. He was a farmer and lumberman and was active in his church and the community. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a charter member and past president of Wilson-Hebron-Ford Ruritan Club, which presented him with the Outstanding Dinwiddie County Citizen Award in 1963. He was an organizing member of Ford Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Advisory Board of Bank of Virginia/Signet Bank, a past chairman and member of the Dinwiddie Department of Social Services, a member and past chairman of the Dinwiddie Industrial Authority, a former director and chairman of Dinwiddie Farm Bureau, and a member of the VFBF Forestry Advisory Committee. Mr. Allen is survived by his children, William D. Allen, III (Brenda), Nancye A. Herring (Bob), and Anne S. Allen, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and his devoted friend and companion, Nancy R. Echols. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Hawkins Memorial Presbyterian Church, 7816 White Oak Road, Ford, VA 23850. Interment will be private.
