William Forrest Ashburn, 72, of Hopewell, VA passed away Wednesday February 16, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents, William Eldon & Donna Maxine Hamlin Ashburn, first wife, Wanda Lee â??Sueâ? Hilburn Ashburn, grandson, James Paul Bartelheim, and great-grandson Cameron Ashburn. Mr. Ashburn grew up in Hannibal Mo., and graduated from Hannibal Senior High School in 1956, he delivered papers as a youth for the Hannibal Courier Post. During his high school years he was employed by the Star Theater, the Ski High Drive in Theater. In 1961 he married his first wife, Wanda Lee â??Sueâ? Hilburn who died in 2007. In 2009 he married his current wife Carol Clayton Ashburn who survives. He served with the United States Army for 20 dedicated years, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, and retired as a SSgt E-6. Upon his retirement he went back to school and graduated with a BA in Business Administration from St. Leo University. He then worked as a consultant to the US Government with Graydon Corp., Synoptics, Hughes & Glaxo, while traveling the world installing Computer Programs for the US Army for 18 years. He retired in 2001 to take care of his first wife until her death. He is survived by his wife of 1 ½ years, Carol Clayton Ashburn, daughters, Rita Jane Ashburn (Larry), Patricia Lorraine Kirtland (Dan), brothers Larry & Russel Ashburn, 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grand children, 4 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Sun Funeral Home Saturday February 19, 2011 from 4 to 6 pm with a funeral service at 6 pm.; with full Military Honors.
