WILLIAM MOSS BARKER, a lifelong resident of Richmond, passed away August 6, 2005. He was born in Richmond on April 28, 1929, the son of Sidney Hill and Annie Moss Barker. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Randolph-Macon College. His career consisted of radio, sales, education and management. Mr. Barker was never one to turn down a challenge, help a friend or to make his community a better, safer place. He received numerous community awards as Vice President of Public Affairs from the Retail Merchants Association. He retired in April 1994. He then retired a second time as Director of Community & Governmental Affairs of the Richmond International Airport in November 2000.
He is survived by his brother, John Hill Barker, Sr., and his wife, Frances of Parksley, VA; a nephew, Col. John Hill Barker and his wife, JoAnn, of Forest Hill, MD; two nieces, Nancy Chesser and her husband, Robert, of Assawoman, Va, and Ann Paul Theresin of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by five great-nephews and one great-niece.
A memorial service will take place graveside at the Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Va, on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield, VA. The family wishes to extend thanks to a special friend, Lynda Brice, for her attention and loving care shown to Mr. Barker.
