William Cecil Bess

William Cecil Bess, 94, of Port Haywood, VA, passed away peacefully July 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blake McRae Bess and Nettie Faggert Bess; his loving wife of 62 years, Elsie Bess; daughter, Deborah Lindsey; and his sister, Elene Bowman. He is survived by his son, Robert M. "Rae" Bess and wife, Judy; grandchildren, Laura Bess and husband, Anthony Demaio, Rebecca Baugus and husband, James, Courtney Higginbotham and husband, Nick; great-grandchildren, Dean Baugus and Madison Baugus; sister, Hallie Bowman; as well as numerous extended family and friends. William was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He retired after more than 40 years of service from DuPont. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the Bay, and was an avid fisherman with multiple citations caught throughout his life. The family will receive friends Monday, July 11, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at J.T. Morriss & Son Chester Chapel, 3050 W. Hundred Rd. Chester VA, 23831. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2022, at J.T. Morriss & Son - Chester Chapel. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park.
