William Frederick May of Church Road, VA passed away May 3, 2004 at his residence. Born June 2, 1938 in Clearfield, PA he was the son of the late Delmont G. and Betty L. May. Mr. May received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree from The College of William and Mary. After graduating from IUP he taught one year in PA and then fulfilled his military obligation as an officer in the United States Army at Fort Lee, VA. He was also a member of the Army Reserve. After his military service he was a teacher in the Prince George County School system and also served as guidance counselor and guidance director there. He then moved to the Dinwiddie County School system where he served as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Dinwiddie County High School; Principal, Rohoic Elementary School and Dean, Dinwiddie County Middle School retiring in 1991. He then served as Guidance Counselor at Kenston Forest School, Blackstone, VA, retiring in 2000. Mr. May was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg, VA, where he served two terms as Council/Congregation President, Synod Convention delegate, lay liturgical assistant, Adult Sunday School teacher and was an active participant on many committees. He was a former member of the Gerow Ruritan Club and an Odyssey of the Mind Judge at both the regional and state level. He was also a member of the American Legion Montgomery Post 17, DuBois, PA. He is survived by his wife, Edna C. May; daughter, Dana May-White of Carson, VA; son, William Delmont (Monty) May of Richmond, VA; sister, Connie M. Valdes’ of DuBois, PA; niece, Joey Knapp of DuBois, PA and two grandchildren, Lindsay Blair Brockwell and Brian Scott Johnson of Carson, VA. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm tonight at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday May 5th at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Petersburg, VA., with Pastor David Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
