William Harding Frye, Jr. "Sweet William"

William "Bill" H. Frye, Jr., lovingly known as Sweet William to his family and friends, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the age of 78. Born in Saltville, Virginia, he raised his family in Hopewell, Virginia for the past 55 years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Frye, Sr. and Daphne Frye (née Blevins) and his sister, Linda Taylor. Bill worked at Firestone in Hopewell in the production department until the plant closed. He also spent his career working in the plumbing, heating, and air services, and served honorably in the United States Army. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he had a passion for coin collecting, and Saturday yard sale adventures. He was a member of City Point Restoration Church in Hopewell, Virginia. Most importantly, Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and the greatest "poppy" ever. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda C. Frye (née Rhea); daughters, Marie Synan (Dennis) and Kim Allen (Floyd); granddaughters, Kaitlyn Longstaff (Mike) and Kelsey Allen; great-grandchildren, Michael Longstaff and Anise Longstaff; siblings, Nance Lane, James "Jim" Frye (Sue), Carrie Evans (Rodney), Bonnie Hawthorne (Jeff), and Connie Vanover (Buddy); sister-in-law, Rose Clark (Bill); beloved family dog, Dumpling; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at J.T. Morriss & Son - Hopewell, 820 W. Broadway Avenue, Hopewell, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10 AM, where a funeral service will be held in the chapel at 11 AM. Interment will follow the service at Appomattox Cemetery, 703 N. 21st Avenue, Hopewell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org .
