William Colquitt Garvin, 70, of Hopewell, passed away on November 24, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Ellen Brame Garvin and his parents William C. Garvin Sr. and Martha Garvin. William attended Hopewell High School as well as Wesleyan College, and he held many different jobs throughout his lifetime. He was a police officer with the Sharpsburg, N.C. Police Department, worked with Allied Chemicals in Hopewell, Virginia, and he also worked for Honeywell in Hopewell, Virginia. Bill was also a member of the Hopewell Masonic Lodge. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill was a student of southern history and he also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Ellen. Bill and Ellen were devoted to each other for many years. Bill is survived by his brother-in-law, David A. Smith; nephew, Trey A. Smith; aunt and uncle, Grady and Jeannette Pittman; and special friends, Thurman and Carol Elmore. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 636, Hopewell, VA 23860.
