William Joseph Harney

William J. Harney was called home for the glory of God on June 1, 2018. He was born on December 12, 1962 in Wheeling, W.Va. Bill grew up in Hopewell, graduating from Hopewell High School in 1982. He was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his father, William M. Harney in 2012. Bill is survived by his daughter, Kristen Harney Cook of Chesterfield, VA; his mother, Dorothy J. Harney of San Antonio, TX; his brother, Thomas M. Harney of Disputanta, VA; his sisters, Deborah J. Tucker of Kernersville, NC, Cynthia A. Edmonds of San Antonio, TX, and Janeen M. Verdeyen of Stafford, VA. Bill was an amazing son, brother, father, and friend. Bill lived his life giving love unconditionally, never meeting a stranger. He had an infectious laugh and a heart of gold that forever changed the lives of those he met. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
