William Jay Hughes

Hughes, William Jay of Chester, VA, age 46, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, May 24, 2019 after a courageous battle with liver disease. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Hughes, and half-sister, Monica Hughes. William is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Kristen (Mellem) Hughes and his precious loving children, Allison(16), Natalie(14), and Ian(7). He is also survived by his sister, Jennifer Hughes; mother, Pamela Hughes; stepfather, Thomas Denny; step-sister, Amanda Denny; a nephew and niece; Kristen’s parents, Jacky and Bruce Mellem; brother, Brian Mellem (Michelle and children) all of NY. William was born April 7, 1973 in Massena, NY and moved to Chester, VA after college as he began his 22 year career as a Civil Engineer with VDOT. He was a member of Second Branch Baptist Church. A memorial service celebrating William’s life will be held Friday, May 31, at 4pm at Second Branch Baptist, 12217 Second Branch Road, Chesterfield, Virginia 23838. Family will receive friends at the reception after church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hughes Family Fund, Second Branch Baptist, or in honor of William to the Hume-Lee Transplant Center, VCU Health.
