William Baskerville Knott Jr.

William Baskerville Knott, Jr., 82 years old, of Sutherland, passed away peacefully at his home on May 24, 2014. He was born in Dinwiddie, Virginia on May 19, 1932 and was the son of the late William B. Knott, Sr. and Virginia T. Knott. He was a lifelong member of Smyrna Baptist Church where he served over the years as a Deacon and on numerous church committees. He was a retired dairy and beef cattle farmer and real estate broker. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, cultivating daylilies and sharing his love of plants with his friends at Boulevard Flower Gardens. He was a lifetime member of the Richmond Area Daylily Society and a founding member of the Virginia Simmental Association. Mr. Knott is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Virginia S. Knott; four children, William B. Knott, III (Pamela), Betty K. Spiers (Mark), Mary K. Branzelle (Robert) all of Dinwiddie, and Raymond C. Knott (Kimberly) of Amissville, VA; eight grandchildren, Christian X. Knott, Cheyenne L. Knott, Hunter C. Spiers, Tyler S. Spiers, Jonathan K. Branzelle, Benjamin C. Branzelle, Sara E. Knott and Leah C. Knott. He is also survived by numerous cousins and close friends. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Smyrna Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Trinity United Methodist Church, Church Road, VA. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Smyrna Baptist Church, 18971 Carson Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841.
