Retired Circuit Court Judge William Park Lemmond, Jr, 81, of Prince George, VA passed away on Monday, July 7th, 2014. He was born in Roanoke, VA to the late William Park and Alice Carpenter Lemmond. He is survived by his wife, Beryl Mitchell Lemmond; four children, William Park Lemmond, III, Gregory Gavin Lemmond, Jennifer Lemmond Gustavus, and James Jason Lemmond; and eight grandchildren, Anna, Sam, Rebekkah, and Jonathan Gustavus, and Zeke, Rayna, Addie and Jeb Lemmond. Park Lemmond made an impact in a wide variety of places and activities. Growing up on 5th Street in Arlington, VA, Park earned his reputation and his nickname "Whitey" as a blond-haired adventurer, entrepreneur, and good friend. At Virginia Tech Whitey lived the Cadet Corps life in A Company and his graduation began a life-long affection for his alma mater. One of the great joys of his later life was organizing and attending class of ’54 reunion activities with the “Old Guard.” Whitey was a fighter pilot for nearly twenty-three years, flying with the USAF, the USMC & the VaANG. He was both a gifted flier and flight leader, again making great friends and surviving numerous adventures. Park’s law career began after graduating from T.C. Williams Law School, and consisted of fifty years in the Virginia Bar, sixteen years as a Circuit Court Judge for the 6th Circuit and fifteen years serving as a mentor to inmates through Kairos Prison Ministry. Dad was a wonderful father, living the last half of his life in Prince George. He worked to build new courthouses, served as a member of the school board and on the vestry at his church, while still finding time and energy to encourage and equip his children. He quit drinking to help him be a better father and quit smoking to extend his life as a grandfather. He loved his wife, Beryl, for 57 years, growing old together on “the pond.” He died peacefully, assured of his Heavenly resting place, having served many of his last years helping others to know this same peace. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, VA, with The Reverend David H. Teschner, Rector, officiating. There will be a time of visitation immediately following the service in the parrish hall of the church. Concluding rites with full military honors will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to either Kairos Prison Ministry International (memo line: Greensville Correctional Center) 100 DeBary Plantation Boulevard, DeBary, FL 32713 or the Virginia Tech Foundation (memo line: Corps of Cadets) and mail to Virginia Tech University Development 0336, 902 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24061, Attn:Gift Accounting.
