William Maurice "Billy" Leonard, 91, of Sutherland, passed away peacefully, November 5, at Dunlop House. Mr. Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Billie Jordan Leonard, his parents, Hugh and Annie Sutherland Leonard; his brothers, Theo, Mike, and Randolph Leonard, and his sister, Dot Leonard Gill.

Surviving are his daughters, Doris Leonard Pritchett and her husband, Irving, of Dinwiddie, and Linda Leonard Barker of Sutherland; and a beloved grandson, William Leonard Barker of Charlottesville; a sister-in-law, Beth Herring Jordan of Chesapeake, a brother-in-law, James Edward Jordan, Jr. of Concord, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Leonard was born September 11, 1919, on Riverside Farm in Sutherland, where he resided for 91 years. He was graduated from Midway High School in 1939. Upon graduation he joined his father and brother on the family farm. In 1968, he and his wife built and operated Leonard's Campground and Marina on Lake Chesdin, where they worked until retirement.

Mr. Leonard was the oldest member of Ocran United Methodist Church, a church attended by his grandparents, parents, wife, children, and grandson. He loved Ocran Church his entire life. It was there that he met his wife of sixty-two years. Mr. Leonard was also a charter member of the Ocran United Methodist Men's group.

He was a member of the Wilson-Hebron-Ford Ruritan Club, and a charter member of the Sutherland Ruritan Club, and spent many hours working for these clubs.
Mr. Leonard has served on the Dinwiddie Planning Commission, Ford Volunteer Fire Department, the Farmer's Home Administration Committee, and was a member of the Dinwiddie Farm Bureau, and served as an Officer of Elections.

Visitation will be held at Ocran United Methodist Church, Sutherland, on Sunday, November 7, from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 8, at Ocran United Methodist Church, Sutherland, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
