William Lee Ray Mccarney

William Lee Ray McCarney, 85, of Chester, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Louis and Sara Agnes Heefner McCarney; and sister, Rosalie McCarney Sauerbier. William was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Chester United Methodist Church. William received his AA in Business Administration from Hagerstown Junior College and then received his BA in Communications from American University. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi, Pi Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Delta Chi. He retired from the U.S. Government as Administrative Officer after 41 years of service. He was a substitute teacher for Farifax County for 10 years. He also held two very special rolls during his successful career, Special Assistant to the Chairman of Consumer Product Safety Commission and as the only non-political Director for President Ronald Reagan’s First Transition Team. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Silvia Ann Hange McCarney; two sons, Christopher McCarney and wife, Andrea, and Gregory McCarney and wife, Katey; sister, Joyce Calimer; brother, Earle W. McCarney and wife, Rachel; grandson, Brennan McCarney; granddaughter, Laura Brooke McCarney; and many nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M., in Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia Courthouse, VA. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M.
