William Daniel Minor, 83, of Hopewell, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center. Mr. Minor was born in Hopewell and had been a life long resident. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving as a T/Sgt. with the 8th Air Force, 817th Squadron, 483rd Bomb Group H in Italy. Mr. Minor was a charter and life member of the Hopewell Optimist Club serving as President and District Lt. Governor, a member of First United Methodist Church, and a retired planner/estimator for Hercules, Inc. with 43 years of service. An avid collector of vintage china and ironware, he was a member of the National Imperial Glass Collectors Society and The Griswold Society. Mr. Minor enjoyed traveling and camping and was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association and Family Campers and RV’ers of which he was a past officer. Mr. Minor was the son of the late Charles P. and Anna Martin Minor and the widower of Anna Katharine Luzny Minor. He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Katharine Hemphill of Bedford TX, one son, William D. Minor, Jr. of High Point, NC, two grandchildren Douglas Alan Hemphill of Lancaster, CA, Janette Lynn Saroka of Batavia, Ohio, 3 great grandchildren, Richard and Haley Hemphill, Aiden Saroka, one sister, Louise M. Conover of Hopewell and a companion and friend, Jean Stevens of Hopewell. The family will receive friends Friday, April 16, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Willard Wash, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
