William Charles Morsell, Jr.

SGM William “Bill” Charles Morsell, Jr., U.S. Army, Retired, 86, passed away peacefully at his Prince George home on Thursday, January 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Gloria Clary Thomas Morsell; his parents, William and Catherine Morsell, Glen Burnie, MD, and his brothers, James “Bob” Morsell, Glen Burnie, MD and Jerry Morsell, Port Charlotte, FL. SGM(RET) Morsell grew up in Glen Burnie, MD, before joining the United States Army Engineer Corp. During his career he completed overseas tours in Europe, Korea and Vietnam. His last assignment was the Chief Enlisted Advisor to the Missouri Army National Guard, Jefferson City, MO. He retired from the Army with 30 years of service. His decorations included the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, l, the Army Commendation Medal with nine Oak Leaf Clusters, European Occupational Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with six campaign stars, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Civic Action Awards with Palm device, and the State of Missouri Meritorious Service Medal. Following his military service, Bill was employed by the United States Postal Service (USPS) as a Mail Carrier for Prince George County. He completed vehicle mechanic technical courses and enjoyed working on cars, bowling, dancing and spending time with his “Sweetie” and family. In 2016 Crater Community Hospice presented Bill with a Certificate of Appreciation for his military service, pin, and quilt made by Colonial Heights VFW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Powers Memorial Baptist Church, 2807 Jackson Street, Hopewell, VA, 23860 or your favorite Veterans’ organization. He is survived by his stepson, Joseph “Joe” Neal Thomas, Prince George; granddaughter Catrina Gunter, Fort Myers, FL; sister, Jean Trevillian, Glen Burnie, MD; sister in laws, Geraldine “Gerri” Morsell and Betty Nouth, Glen Burnie, MD, Margie Clary, Prince George, and Marjorie Clary, Goldsboro, NC., numerous nieces and nephews, and devoted caregivers Tonya, Shirley, Ann, Cookie, Crystal, Kee and McGuire Holmes Home Bound Nurse Kim. The family will receive friends at J.T. Morriss Hopewell Chapel, 820 West Broadway, on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a funeral service to be held at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow in Appomattox Cemetery with full military honors.
