William B. Sloan, 57, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, surrounded by his family. As a young man Bill attended Thomas Dale High School where he participated in track and football. He was also a proud alumnus of East Carolina University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Bill was passionate about East Carolina Pirate football. He was an excavation contractor and land developer and in his early adult years a successful real estate agent. Sandbridge Beach was a second home to Bill and his family, and a part of Bill will always dwell in the Caribbean Islands. Bill and many wonderful parents were proud volunteers of the Enon Association where for many years he was president, coach, and mentor. He was a lifetime member of Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church where he was a charter member, served on the board of trustees and served on the church council. Throughout his life he lived on his beloved Mt. Blanco farm. If one thing could be said about Bill it is that he was a people person. There was never a dull moment talking to him; his charisma and friendly attitude brought joy to all who knew him; His family was his life. He was a great father and husband to his sons and wife Katie; three sons, Will, Joe, and Josh; two brothers, Gibbons and Bin; mother-in-law, Marjorie Whitley; sisters-in-law Heather Sloan, Leslie Sloan, Marge Whitley, and Fair Whitley; brothers-in-law, Carter Whitley and George Whitley; nephews, Binford, Gib, Chris, and Ashley Sloan. He was predeceased by his parents Francis and Sue Brittle Sloan. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 6, at Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church, 2025 Florence Avenue, Chester, Va. 23836; from 6:30 until 9pm. A memorial service will be held at 5p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at 12001 N. Enon Church Road, Chester, Va. 23836, the home of the Sloan family.
