William Thomas Temple, 92, of Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, of Irvington, Virginia, formerly of Petersburg, Virginia died May 26, 2004. He was born January 20, 1912 the son of Emily Douglass Marks Temple and Thomas Temple. On his maternal side he was a descendant of Edmund Ruffin and Francis Ruffin, also of Benjamin Harrison and William Henry Harrison. On his paternal side he was descended from Sir William Temple of Surry, England, and Francis Epes, I. His memberships include the Society of Descendants of Francis Epes, I, Jefferson Society of the University of Virginia, Chi Beta Phi Scientific Fraternity, Theta Chi, Social Fraternity, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiques, Historic Petersburg Foundation, Historic Blandford Cemetery Foundation, and Historic Christ Foundation. He was born into the Episcopal Church, being a long time member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg. Mr. Temple was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland and attended the University of Virginia. His career in his profession as Chemical Engineer included the Tubize Corporation, Solvay Process Company, a division Allied Chemical and Dye Company, Celanese Corporation of America, Nitrogen Division of Allied Chemical and Dye Company, as well as some instruction in his field at VPI. After moving to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury he became involved in activities, serving on several committees of Residents’ Board, as well as volunteer services. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Johnson Temple, and is survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Boush Johnson, and several cousins including Mrs. George B. Finney and family, Miss Mary Gee Myers and Francis Heath Myers and family, Mrs. Louis Shell and family, the Honorable Pamela S. Baskervill and family, and others. Graveside services to be held in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. David H. Teschner and the Rev. Dr. Boston M. Lackey, Jr.., presiding.
