William Lee Tignor, 82, of Petersburg, VA died on March 6, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Berney Tignor and Celia J. Johnson Tignor, daughter Mina Creaseman; brothers James R. Tignor, Daniel T. Tignor, Berney Tignor, Jr., John D. Tignor, Howard Tignor; sisters, Mamie L. Kaiser, Martha B. Helton, and Catherine E. Helton. William was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was born in 1929 and raised on a farm in Russell County, VA. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1946. He worked in coal mines for seven months before joining the Army on August 30, 1948 and served until October 30, 1968 when he retired. He took a 45 day vacation before he started working for the City of Petersburg on January 16, 1969 and worked for 22 years and six months until he retired on June 30, 1991; he still set on the board for Traffic Engineering with City of Petersburg. William is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dorothy M. Pauley Tignor; children, Sandra Fink, Mark Jarrell, Mike Jarrell, Jack Jarrell, Barbara Dickey, and Beverly Vaughan; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren, two sisters, Opal Bryant, Dora McFadden; a brother, Guy Tignor; and numerous nieces and nephews. William came from a large family of twelve children. The funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Tuesday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund, 1668 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, VA 23805.
