William Robert Wood

William Robert Wood, 82, a lifelong resident of Prince George County, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 17, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Wood was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of Gary’s United Methodist Church. More than anything, he loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, hunting, riding his four-wheeler and taking care of his birds, especially his Purple Martins. He was also a member of the “Reams Rockers,” a group of men who met at Reams Station just to sit and talk. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents, Jordan Alley and Mary Haskins Wood; brother, Jordan Edward Wood; sister, Rebecca Wood Farmer; and brother-in-law, Jim Yost. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha W. Wood; daughters, Inez W. Tyrcha and husband, John E. Tyrcha, and Brenda Wood; grandchildren, Johnathan David Tyrcha and Tiffany D. Ashton and husband, Tim; great-grandchildren, John William Tyrcha and Makayla Grace Ashton; sister, Josephine Wood Yost; brother-in-law, Harry Byrd Farmer; sister-in-law, Mary Clary Wood, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with The Reverends Henry Butler and Stuart Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
